The Skinny

I am a known "late adopter" (though I am not old, or uneducated... just reluctant) of all things related to technology, fashion, and... life. Remember how I said I'd never buy skinny jeans?

Well I didn't buy any.

I made them. Or "re-fashioned" them as some would say. I like them because they were free, and they fit my athletic legs much better than something store bought would.

I still feel a little funny wearing them because they are new to me. But I do like them. Maybe I'll get the courage to make another pair one day!

10 on Tuesday

Because I suck at posting regularly.

1. I had a birthday. My friends and family must love me alot, because they were very generous. I mean, my brother- well really his wife gave me twin nephews.

2. Grades were due for midterms on Monday. I watched 3 Disney movies and the entire second season of The Office to finish.

3. Hubby and I are in full gear planning our summer. Still no decisions on where we will be going FOR SURE for med school, but we do have options. We will probably move in July sometime.

4. We have some awesome travel plans for this summer. Lets just say we will be out of cell phone range.

5. My parents are coming next week- Its baby brother's spring break, and they are coming to visit their new grandkids. Their dog will be staying with us. I'm excited to see my parents, less excited to see their dog.

6. I've been sewing. Alot. I've made a dress and a skirt- on top of the pants and jeans/skirt that I re-fashioned- and I have a dress and another project in the works. I should really get some pictures going.

7. I've been been babysitting my nephew JM, because his brother JG is still in the hospital and mommy can't bring baby with her. JG was born 4lbs 11oz. He was so tiny! He eats pretty well, just not enough. So he has a feeding tube to help him finish. He has also had a hard time keeping his Oxygen stats up, so when he comes home he'll probably have an oxygen tank.

8. In babysitting little JM, I've begun to figure out why so many friends have babies/are pregnant. He's cute! He did pee all over himself and me yesterday while I was changing him...

9. Prepping for General Conference this week. It may be a marathon of talks, but I always find them so uplifting.  I will have to keep my hands busy in order to stay awake though. Here come some crafties...

10. Baby JG is home with his family now, which is fantastic. I'm so excited to see them again!

Kids Believe the Darndest Things...

This exchange today reminded my of a good friend from high school who was voted one of the most gullible. (I was voted 3rd most conservative i think... I don't agree with that one by the way.)


Just before I called my class back to attention, I heard one boy yell out "Wait, every thousand years there is a February 30th??" I laughed.

Not in our calendar. But in some early calendars there was February 30th.

Now why is poor February so confused? Why was that poor boy so confused?

Sisters

Or seesters (seeeeeeesters) as my sisters-in-law would say.

I grew up without them. I have two brothers. Two awesome brothers. One about 5 years older, and one almost 9 years younger. We are a bit spread out. I grew up as an expert at playing with matchbox cars, blocks, marbles, action figures, army men, and I was a monkey climbing trees. Pinecone wars, bike races, and playing tennis with cars were also regular parts of growing up. So were hide-and-seek, cops and robbers, and all kinds of boy movies. Though I remember being beside my self with joy when mom brought home Beauty and the Beast. I didn't need sisters, I liked playing in the boys world.

In high school I developed a friendship that was like having a sister, or two or three. M (you know who you are!) and I were inseparable for a few years, and we had some spats that went with being inseparable. Her older and younger sisters were like family to me too. It was wonderful!

I didn't get an "official" sister until I was 17 when my brother got married to my amazing sister-in-law J. Her wit and sarcasm made me appreciate her all the more. In college I often would call and visit. We would chat on my lunch breaks, she would give me advice, and her opinions which were always highly valued. She was my matron-of-honor at my wedding. She helped me so much through my engagement, and planning, and talking, and Zupas.... J it wouldn't have been possible without you! Now she's having twin boys in a couple weeks, and I'm so excited!!! I hope I can repay all of the wonderful things she's done for me.

Marrying my Hubby meant I got another Sister-in-law! We almost share a birthday (hers is the day before mine) and she is so much fun! She was a bridesmaid for me too. It was so meaningful to me to have my two sisters there for me at my wedding! It is so much fun to have her nearby. She is wise beyond her years, and has been invaluable to me in helping me to get to know my new family. She's silly, playful, serious, fun, creative, and unfailingly kind. And she love her dog-niece, Luna!

Then Hubby's brother met a girl. And a little while later I got a new official sister-in-law! It has been (fill in the blank here: fun, interesting, though-provoking, meaningful, I can't pick the right one...) to watch her as she finds her place in her new family. I see myself in many of the experiences she has had with her in-laws. She is sweet, feminine, creative, and way more in touch with her girly side than I ever have been (in a good way Hayl)! She is helping me want to embrace my inner (very deeply buried) domestic goddess.

I am so blessed to have three such wonderful sister as a part of my life. I am better because of each of you. I'll never know exactly what I missed growing up with sisters, but having you with me now is a wonderful thing. I am learning and growing as I watch and spend time with you.

Bun in the Oven

No, no, NOT me. Everyone else though.

I'm not complaining, I'm just making an observation that it sure seems like most of my friends have had a kid, or are going to have a kid. Many are working on their second. I have a friend my age who is working on her 4th (!) at the moment. She did have a set of twins though.  Three dear friends at work are all expecting within weeks of each other, so the topic of babies comes up alot. Which perhaps is why I'm writing this.

What I'm wondering is this: Did I miss the memo here? Am I the only married girl out there that hasn't had a baby yet? I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all. In fact I'm very very happy for each of my friends. Am I behind the times though? Cuz man. This club sure seems to be a popular one.
